This World War II novel puts things into a different perspective because it takes place in Ireland. Sometimes we seem to forget that World War II literally affected the world. While there were some good aspects in this book, there were things in this book that wasn't necessary. There should not be so much sensuality in a Christian fiction book. Also, the men were a bit weak and silly.

Big things come in small packages. This little book is filled with a lot of insight that is very much needed. We all struggle with anger and being impatient. This book helps put things into perspective and teaches how to better handle anger.

This is a sweet story that helps remind us what the true meaning of Christmas is all about. While I really wanted to love this book, I just couldn't get into it. It was slow going for me, but it does make you think about what's important.

This book is divided into three sections Ritual, Relationships and Rest.  Each section gives something to think about, questions to ponder and a practical approach to change your Christmas into a more meaningful season.  I liked the suggestion about taking the Christmas cards as they come in and praying for the people who sent them,  My major complaint about this book is not using scripture from the King James Bible.  I don't understand why people use other so-called bibles, instead of the one true inspired Word of God.  They claim they can understand them better, but to me they make things more confusing and they are changing the meaning of God's Word to suit themselves.  What I like about this book is its purpose is to have a more meaningful Christmas and not one that is focused on the commercial side of Christmas.

"Christy"

Set in the Smoky Mountain community of Gutter Gap Catherine Marshall shares with us the story of her mother Leonora Wood, who at the tender young age of 19, left home to teach the mountain children.  In doing so she forever changed her life and the lives of others.

Although based on a young woman's life, Christy is a work of fiction, with both fact and fiction woven in together.  

Mountain people are proud as well as superstitious and they don't trust outsiders, and they don't trust each other. A "blood feud"  is also involved and threatens to disrupt her classroom.  The novel takes place in the year 1912, but times in Cutter Gap have not caught up to the outside world, so Christy also has physical hardships as well. Can Miss Huddleston see beyond their poverty and fierce clan-like nature and break down the barriers so she can help the people she has come to love?  Also, two men are vying for her affections,  the Preacher, and the Doctor, who was born and raised in the mountains and endeavors to help Christy understand his people.

This is a beautiful 50th-anniversary copy of this delightful book.  It has a map of all the important places in Cutter Gap in the front.  Also a compiled list of the characters and a short relationship they have with each other.  I would like to find out how much of this story is not fiction. Don't expect the book to be like the television series.  There are some vast differences in places and at times it follows the book closely.

Review:

The King James Bible Know the Word Study Bible is a very helpful and insightful study Bible. The explanations are very informative without being overwhelming. Of course, the Holy Spirit will always help you understand if we just ask Him. By using this Bible, it will help you to actually study God's Word instead of just reading it. II Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 

I definitely recommend this study Bible. You can never go wrong with studying God's Word - King James Bible.

Review:

"Mercy Triumphs" is definitely a different read, but the story is still compelling. We can never be reminded enough of how God can do the impossible. Not only that, but we should also believe that He can do the impossible! This book may be fiction, but it still provides great truths that we can all learn from.

Life is filled with choices. We have a bazillion choices that we have to make every single day. What to wear. What to eat. What to drink. What to say. When to say it. What to think. What to do. The list goes on and on. Some decisions involve other people, most do not. But there is one choice we have that will not only affect us today but tomorrow and for the rest of our lives. If we prayed about the things that concern us as much as we worried about them, we'd have a lot less to worry about. So let's turn our worry lists into prayer lists.

Don't stress about it. Pray about it.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.  Marlo's Schalesky take on Sarah's story is so original.  I loved reading how she imagined the way Sarah felt and what she was going through.  There were many things I learned from reading this book.  "Waiting for Wonder" was exactly what I needed, as I am in a period of waiting myself!  I was encouraged and strengthened by reading this book and allowing God to use it to teach me.

"Getaway with God" is a an easy how-to book for how to schedule time to actually getaway with God.  This book encourages you to actually make a plan and do it.   

While this is a great reminder and encouragement, I was expecting it to be more of a devotional.  

This book is an easy read and has a lot of tips of how to make a way for one to actually spend more time with God.  I believe we all know how to do it, we just don't make the time to do actually spend time with God.  That's what this book is about, actually putting our knowledge into action and getting alone with God!

The book starts out with a group of children going to a junior police academy program and learning how to be how detective. One of the boys finds an old skateboard and brings it class with him the next day. The children work together with the training detective to solve where the skateboard came from and how it ended up in the shed on the school property. While they begin the case of the skateboard, Detective Jeffries tells the children not to be “know-it-alls” about the case and he then asks them if they can think of an example of people being a “know-it-all”. One of the cadets speaks up and says that he thinks his neighbors are “know-it-alls” because they believe in God. Detective Jeffries says that Jason is being a “know-it-all” because he believes that there is no way that there is a God. Throughout the rest of the book the case of the skateboard and the case about God coincide with each other. As the cadets use the detective skills that they are learning to solve the skateboard case, they use those same skills to prove that God is real.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. As the Children’s Church director at my church, I am always looking for resources and visuals that I can use with the children. This book gave me several good ideas that I am looking forward to using in the future. The worksheets that you can download to go with this book are great and would be perfect for children eight-years-old or older. The logic and detective skills that children will learn by reading this book can be applied to anything.
