I've always enjoyed Anita Higman's writing and this book wasn't any different.  She always creates realistic, yet unique characters that you can somehow always relate to.  While this book is fiction, most of it is still very realistic in the things that we may deal with on a daily basis.  But how we deal with them is the important part. 

There were some areas that were a bit strange to me and made me ask "why?"  (Martin's family)  I wish they wouldn't have been so dramatically mean and strange.  

"Summer's List" reminds us that even though life doesn't happen as we think it should, doesn't mean that God has forgotten or abandoned us.  He is still in control and He always works things out.

Christmas Musings by: Anita Higman

I feel great joy in preparing my home for the holiday season. I love to drape boughs of greenery along the staircase, swirl spices into a pot of apple cider that’s simmering on the stove, make crafty floral arrangements, and sing along with all my favorite carols. Then when friends and family come over for brunches and dinners, I put out my finest decoration, my best china, and my sincerest smile. I go all out. These are my guests, and I want the event to be welcoming, satisfying, and festive. I want them to feel like royalty.

When Christ arrived in Bethlehem, I wish He could have had a more splendid welcoming, a more regal place to sleep than a wooden trough where animals were fed. Even though His birth was without majestic lodgings or kingly adornments, I’m so glad He overlooked our foolish blunders, our lack of hospitality, and chose to live amongst us anyway. Jesus certainly could have chosen a different route and easier way to offer redemption.

But He didn’t.

Jesus came in one of the humblest possibly ways. He had a divine approach that left humans surprised and puzzled. And it turned into a road of pain beyond anything we can imagine. When it comes to God’s extravagant sacrifice and love that Christmas represents, He deserves a standing ovation. After all, Christmas holds the true secrets we’ve all been searching for: meaning to our lives on earth, victory over death, and life eternal.Christmas gives us a reason to work, to laugh, to dream, to love. Christmas is a holiday of the heart and earth’s finest celebration.

"A Marriage in Middlebury"

Young and in love Charlotte didn't know what to do.   The man of her dreams had proposed to her, of course she wanted to yes......but didn't.  Couldn't.  Sam, being devastated and confused, left town and tried to start another life elsewhere, without Charlotte.

Years later, Charlotte has her own tea room, Rose Cottage Tea Room, that is very successful and everyone's favorite hang out.  She has her own special blend of teas that keeps everyone coming back for more!  While Charlotte loves her Tea Room and being a blessing to the people in Middlebury, she still seems to be missing something......or someone.

After years of being away, Sam finally comes back to Middlebury to visit his dying dad except he doesn't come alone, but with his fiancee.   

Charlotte can't believe her eyes when Sam walks into her Tea Room.  She really can't believe her eyes when he's with a woman.  What gets her though is, Sam's fiancee asks her to help with their wedding and Charlotte's heart can't seem to stop pounding since seeing Sam again. 

Why did Charlotte say no to the man of her dreams?  

Does Sam realize he's engaged to the wrong woman?   

Or will he late till it's too late?

This book was different for me.  I'm more into adventure books, like westerns and such.  This one was good though.  I did, however, have trouble getting into it at the beginning.  After the first few chapters, though, I liked it better.  The ending did seem to leave some characters unfinished.  I'm not sure if she's going to make a series or what, but it didn't seem like their story was finished.
